Leader’s Kitamura XrossCut VMC machines from scans

The Kitamura 4-axis XrossCut vertical machining centre can machine parts using'.art' or STL file. This means the machine can be connected to a 3D scanner to capture a component's geometry, and from this data can create an STL file that is translated automatically to generate a program. The XrossCut is available in the UK from Leader CNC.

At least three times faster than a more conventional machine tool in the mouldmaking industry, Kitamura claims the XrossCut can be operated by a machinist with very little or no NC machining experience. It offers a work envelope of 310 by 560 by 350 mm in the X, Y and Z axes.

With a spindle speed of 70,000 rpm and a maximum feed rate of 120 m/min in the X-axis, Kitamura says it is one of the fastest machining centres in the world.
