iGap and Wear Partitioning from GFMS boost EDM

GF Machining Solutions has introduced two innovations designed to further improve the productivity and performance of its EDM die-sink machines: iGap and Wear Partioning.

iGap is an embedded auto-adaptive system that can, by responding to changing machining conditions, alter the discharge current and pulse duration in real time, elevating cutting speeds and reducing electrode wear – especially lateral wear. The system is most effective when using graphite electrodes to machine ribs and parts with multi-cavities, using a spark gap of less than 0.2 mm.

Wear Partitioning is a function that manages electrode wear when machining multi-cavities. By selecting the Wear Partitioning function, the geometric details of an electrode are protected since electrode wear is spread evenly between all the cavities being machined.

Both iGap and Wear Partitioning are available on Form 200, 300 and 400 machines, and Form 1000, 2000 VHP and 3000 VHP machines.
