The system locates part edges and scans component contours, using a CCD camera featuring a light-sensitive pixel array. By comparing an image of the part (after machining) while it's still in the machine with the original CAD file, the IVU can identify any small deviations and correct the toolpath automatically. This negates the need to remove parts from the machine to measure them on a separate CMM.
The CCD camera is available with either a 56x or a 156x magnification and employs two light sources – an incidental source at the camera lens and a backlight source to enhance contrast.
Typical users will include manufacturers in the micro-stamping and medical device sectors.
