Heidehain uprates LF encoders to boost accuracy

Heidenhain (GB) has revised and uprated its LF series of sealed incremental linear encoders, offering improved positioning accuracy for use in precision machine tools such as jig borers and grinders, as well as in linear motor applications.

From a grating period of 8 micron, the encoders generate 1 Vpp scanning signals that are free from harmonics and can be highly interpolated, says Heidenhain. On the LF 185 and 485 series, the resulting position error within one signal period is typically smaller than 0.4 micron. Accuracy grades of up to ±2 micron/m are available on the LF 185 range. LF series encoders are available in slimline and full-size versions, in lengths up to 3 m. According to Heidenhain they offer high levels of thermal and dynamic stability, and are resistant to contamination.
