Heckert H/V continuous swivel head boosts 5-axis capability

Aerospace OEMs and their suppliers are among the target audience for the Heckert H/V (horizontal/vertical) continuous swivel head to achieve single set-up 5-axis machining. The head extends the Starrag company's range of spindles for the HEC 1000 to 1800 Athletic as well as BHC 3500 to 5500 horizontal machining centres.

Enabling milling, drilling and tapping as standard, the Heckert H/V head allows the machining centres to perform turning operations when used in conjunction with a rotating NC rotary table, spindle clamping and a HSK-T 100 toolholder. Tools up to 800 mm long can be used as standard and, optionally, weighing up to 50 kg. Simultaneous 5-axis machining is carried out at 1,660 Nm torque – and when milling and drilling (at any angle), hydraulic clamping provides swivel and working position stability and security. The H/V head can be positioned anywhere within the ±180° swivel angle (0° = horizontal, 180° = vertical), and it has a 66 kW (optionally 84 kW) 1,860 Nm servo motor and two speed shift gearbox to produce spindle speeds of 6,000 revs/min (optionally 8,000 revs/min). Swivel movement is by direct drive and it provides a 0.9 sec 180° traverse. The absolute direct angle measurement system has a travel resolution of 0.001°. HSK-A 100 or SK 50 toolholder types A and B, BT 50 and CAT 50 are used for milling and drilling. Coolant can be supplied via nozzles at 60 litres/min or via the spindle and tool centre at a maximum pressure of 70 bar.
