Haas DT-1 drill/tap centre gets 15,000 rpm spindle

Haas Automation has boosted the spindle speed of its DT-1 drill/tap centre from 12,000 to 15,000 rpm, giving customers the ability to run higher feed rates for small tools and high speed machining operations.

The DT-1 is a compact, high speed drilling and tapping machine with full milling capabilities. It features a 508 x 406 x 394 mm work cube and a 660 x 381 mm T-slot table, while maintaining a small footprint. The BT-30 taper spindle now spins to 15,000 rpm, and allows rigid tapping to 5,000 rpm, with up to four times the retract speed. In addition, the spindle is coupled directly to the motor for smooth, quiet operation and thermal stability, says Haas. The DT-1 is equipped with a high speed, 20-pocket, servo-driven toolchanger that swaps tools in 0.8 seconds. Rapids of 61 m/min combine with 1 G acceleration to shorten cycle times and reduce non-cutting time.
