Gantry DMU 80 eVO vertical machining centre features 5-axis simultaneous machining and integrated pallet changer

DMG's DMU 80 eVo from Deckel Maho offers five sided and up to 5-axis simultaneous machining. It features an integrated pallet changer and, in a departure from the classic version, has been realised as a gantry design. This provides improved accessibility from the side as well as a bigger work area for occupied floor space.

The work area accommodates 800, 650 and 550 mm traverse paths in XY and Z respectively, and the 800 by 700 mm, 600 kg load capacity table is to the proven swivel-round design. Swivel range of -5 to +110º allows undercuts of up to 20º. Rapid traverse speeds of up to 50 m/min in B and C axes can be increased with the dynamic package: linear drives in the X and Y axes increase the speed from 50 m/min to 80 m/min. The pallet changer, which cycles in 12 sec, has been integrated to ensure free access to the work area without significantly increasing the machine's footprint. Tool change chip-to-chip time is quoted as low as 5 sec and a double gripper system ensures both speed and reliability, says DMG/Mori Seiki. The DMU 80 eVo range offers a choice of spindles. These include 14,000 rpm as standard, with 18,000 and 24,000 rpm as options. The standard spindle provides 19 kW and a torque of 100 Nm. The 18,000 rpm motor, integrated within the spindle module, features oil/water lubrication and a solid shaft with integrated shaft collar and a higher load capacity bearing for increased strength. The DMU 80 eVo is equipped with the DMG Ergoline control with a 19 inch screen and 3D software, with either Siemens 840D solutionline with ShopMill or Heidenhain iTNC530.
