Floyd Automatic offers coolant-driven unit that delivers spindle speed of 75,000+ rpm

A high pressure coolant-driven spindle unit available from Floyd Automatic Tooling offers spindle speeds up to 75,000+ rpm for small diameter tools.

Primarily designed to provide faster spindle speed for small diameter work, the new ‘Toodle’ spindles can be easily used on most machines fitted with high pressure coolant and a coolant filtering system.

The system has a 25 mm diameter spindle housing that incorporates two ball bearings, a turbine that is driven by the HPC and a locking cap. The Toodle system is supplied with an assembly device that enables an operator to assemble two bearings and a turbine onto the shank of a standard cylindrical tool. (3, 4 or 6 mm diameter).

The completed assembly is then fitted inside the 25 mm diameter and 30 mm long turbine housing. The final process is the tightening of the locking cap. Completed in less than two minutes, Toodle is then ready to be installed on the machine tool.

The system requires no machine adaptation and can work in conjunction with ATC systems. Toodle is available as the standard Toodle Blue 131 system or, alternately, as the Toodle Blue 90° unit. This configuration incorporates a 16 mm diameter 54 mm long tool shank that holds the high speed Toodle unit at 90°.

A maximum spindle speed upwards of 75,000 rpm is possible, based on a coolant pressure of 60 bar, while even at 6 bar Toodle can deliver in excess of 24,000rpm.
