Drill range is first beneficiary of WNT product review

The first beneficiary of WNT's review of its product ranges in order to maximise the savings for its extensive customer base of small to medium sized sub-contractors is the Mastertool range of solid carbide drills.

While the current range, which will remain in place, covers drills from 3 mm through to 20 mm diameter, in increments of 0.1 mm and in a number of different diameter to length ratios, an additional Plusline Mastertool range has been added. It will feature a smaller number of different diameters with drill lengths available in 3x and 5x diameter as standard, in solid or through-coolant formats. This selected range of drill sizes will ensure that the majority of common drilling applications are catered for. As far as performance is concerned, users will see no difference, with typical cutting data for a 9.8 mm diameter 5 x diameter drill, with through-coolant, drilling a 1.7225 (42CD4) steel being 80 m/min and 0.22mm/rev feed, depending upon the exact material specification, machine tool and set-up. By reducing the number of drills in the range following a careful selection of the most commonly used sizes, WNT is able to increase the production volumes, with its customers benefiting from the reduced manufacturing costs by up to 30 per cent.
