Dormer Tools expands Hydra solid carbide replaceable-head drill range
Dormer Tools has expanded its programme of Hydra solid carbide replaceable-head drills with larger diameters. The Hydra concept allows heads to be changed quickly and easily without removing the high speed steel construction body from the spindle.
Hydra-M (R960), available in diameters up to 42 mm, is suitable for drilling operations in titanium and nickel as well as stainless steel and cast iron. Hydra-P (R950) is recommended for machining carbon and alloy steels.
Both head types, which were launched at MACH 2012, have a self-centring 140° four-facet split point that reduces required thrust forces and eliminates the need for pre-drilling
Each head is available with a range of drill bodies to support drilling depths of 3XD (H853), 5XD (H855) and 8XD (H858). One body can accommodate multiple head sizes with no compromise on structural integrity.
