ACT offers indexable carbide insert engraving tools as productive alternative to solid carbide

Advanced Carbide Tooling (ACT) has developed tools for high quality and high definition marking and engraving that have indexable carbide inserts as a cost and time efficient alternative to solid carbide engraving tools.

As an addition to ACT's Nine 9 series, the universal marking tools are suitable for engraving any character or numeral that can be created by an NC program. Available with either a 45º or 60º insert angle, the series can be used for marking serial numbers, product codes, dial scales, signs, logos or any other characters. The four insert geometries in the ACT range, available with a TiN or TiAlN coating, are suitable for engraving a wide variety of materials from aluminium, plastics and non-ferrous materials through to carbon, stainless and hardened steels and cast irons. A geometry design that is fully ground on the periphery ensures repeatability and eliminates burrs. The engraving tools have a high positive rake angle and are capable of running at speeds up to 20,000 rpm and feedrates of 0.08 mm/rev. The 2 mm-thick, two cutting edge inserts incorporate a 6 mm long cutting face for engraving at increased depths and are available with a 0.1 or 0.2 mm corner radius. The inserts are complemented by rigid and robust toolholders that eliminate vibration and provide superior surface finishes at high speeds and feeds. The round shank toolholders are available in 6 mm diameter with lengths of 40, 60 and 100 mm for extended reach applications. The toolholders are also available with the option of steel shank or solid carbide shank for further enhanced rigidity.
