Advanced Carbide Tooling (ACT) is offering the novel W Spotting series tools from Nine9 which are capable in one operation of both chamfering and spot drilling holes prior to tapping. Positional accuracy of the subsequent drilling is also improved.
The Nine9 W Spotting series incorporate an insert with a fully ground cutting edge and relief angle plus a multi-purpose toolholder that can accommodate the W Spotting inserts as well as inserts from the Nine9 series of NC Spot Drills.
The inserts have two cutting edges and an innovative 145º cutting angle and 90º chamfer angle geometry to produce both precise positioning for the drill as well as the industry standard chamfer. The K20F insert grade is TiAlN coated to provide a universal grade that can perform well on cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel and carbon steels.
With five insert designations to cater for M4, M5, M6, M8, and M10 threads, the varying geometries permit the W Spotting inserts to cut to a maximum diameter from 8 to 13 mm with a maximum cutting depth of 4.11 mm. For the machining of imperial threads, the W Spotting series is available in three designations for p, 5/16 and 3/8 inch UNC threads.
The toolholders for the W Spotting series are available in shank diameters of 10 or 16 mm and for imperial set-ups in 3/8 and 5/8 inch diameter. The 10 mm diameter toolholder accepts inserts for tapped holes from M4 to M6 while the 16 mm diameter toolholder is suitable for threads from M8 to M10. The respective diameter toolholders have overall lengths of 89 and 97.5 mm.
