Universal Robots adds fourth UK distributor for its collaborative robots

Danish automation company Universal Robots has added a fourth UK distributor to its network amid signs of renewed investment in the UK.

The new UK distributor is Geku Automation based in Rochester, Kent; it joins R A Rodriguez, based in Letchworth, Hertfordshire; Global Robots, based in Bedford, Bedfordshire; and Olympus Technologies, based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. "We are seeing signs in the UK of increased interest in investing in new technology, as the manufacturing sector slowly eases out of recession, so we have now put in place a comprehensive distributor network to enable us to cope with increased demand and capitalise on market opportunities," explains Kristian Hulgard, UK and Nordic sales manager. "A collaborative robot that doesn't require any special training to program and can be managed by existing technical staff and workers, rather than expensive consultants, is going to be a winner," Nigel Richardson, joint managing director of Geku Automation, adds. "When you add that to the great flexibility of the robot and the fact that in many instances no safety shielding is required, it's a convincing package for small to medium sized enterprises looking to add robots for the first time, or just looking for a more flexible and cost effective solution. "The addition of the Universal Robot range to our portfolio will open up new sectors and applications areas where more traditional industrial Robots would or could not be considered." Geku has over 30 years' experience in providing Robotic & Automation Solutions and offers a complete design and build capability, ranging from simple end of arm tooling, right up to complex turnkey solutions. All systems are fully proven and tested at the company's Rochester Factory before delivery, and are followed up with training and service support packages to suit specific customer needs.
