With the ink barely dry on the agreement to represent the innovative range of Unisign machine tools, Leatherhead-based Matchmaker CNC has already sealed its first order for the Netherlands-based machine tool company.

The new agency agreement, which came into effect on the 1 January 2013, will see Matchmaker CNC take on sales and support for the entire Unisign range of vertical, portal and multi-tasking machining centres. The Unisign range includes 12 standard machine designs, but a strength of the company is its ability to develop tailored solutions for customers' specific needs, which is an indication of the versatility of the standard machine design. The Unisign range complements the existing portfolio of machine tools available from Matchmaker CNC, which includes brands such as Matchmaker, Yasda, Tong Tai, Kiwa, Tsugami, Mitsubishi Honor Seiki and MAG Fadal, taking in vertical and horizontal machining centres, CNC jig boring, heavy duty double column machining centres and vertical turning. "We have been talking to Unisign with a view to representing them for some time, as there is already a synergy between Matchmaker CNC and Unisign customers," says Mike Maskell, director, Matchmaker CNC. "We are very pleased now to be able to announce this new partnership that will build on the existing customer base for Unisign machines in the UK, a market that is ideal for the strength and versatility of the Unisign machines, due to the high level of value added machining, particularly in the aerospace, oil and gas, automotive and energy sectors, where the UK leads the way, and where Matchmaker CNC has extensive experience." Following the signing of the agreement, Matchmaker secured the first order for the latest generation of Unisign machines, a Unipro 5-P machining centre featuring two rotary/tilting tables for pendulum machining applications, along with a 25,000 rpm (100 kW) spindle. The machine will be delivered and commissioned in March at Plymouth-based Hymec Aerospace Group for the machining of a variety of aerospace components. Says Mike Maskell: "Being able to win such a prestigious order from the Hymec Aerospace Group so soon after signing the agency agreement is a fantastic achievement and is testament to the untapped potential of the Unisign range in the UK, with its ability to meet the demands of the high added value manufacturing environment created by the UK's expertise in aerospace, and other high technology industries."
