A novel removable toolsetting probe was a feature of the M&H stand at MACH last week.
The infrared-based Pick-Up Toolsetter 35.40-TS combines a probe docking station that can be located anywhere on a machine tool’s table with a probe body that can be located in and then removed from it.
After tool measurement, the probe body can be removed, automatically or manually, from the docking station so that there are no restrictions placed on movement by a protruding toolsetting probe. This approach is patented by M&H, as is its associated pick-up calibration tool.
The system has a 2 sigma unidirectional repeatability of 0.001 mm and can be used to measure tools down to 3 mm diameter.
