Star sees second quarter order boost

The open days held by Star Micronics at its Melbourne showroom at the end of April kick-started one of the best second-quarter order intakes in recent years.

The event itself resulted in eight machine sales and three further orders taken that month brought the total to £1.2 million. Buoyant activity continued throughout May. Long-established customer, Bonspiel Precision Engineering, a sub-contractor in Dundee, took delivery of an ultra-fast, 10 mm capacity SR-10J (pictured) and ordered another similar machine, bringing the total number of Star lathes on site to in excess of 25. Five other existing Star users returned for additional machines and five sub-contractors chose Star for the first time, two of them being new to sliding-head, multi-axis machining. June order intake started strongly with two orders in the first week, one to an existing user and another to a sub-contractor that has decided for the first time to supplement its fixed-head turning capacity. “From all points of view we are delighted with the results," commented managing director, Bob Hunt. "Existing customers are staying loyal to us, other firms using the technology are changing to Star and first-time users of sliding-head lathes are deciding that Star is the right way to go.”
