Leading one-stop laser job shop SSC Laser has achieved its most successful year to date.

Between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013, the company reached record sales of £7.3 million. Already with manufacturing operations in Stafford and Derby and sales divisions in Sunderland, Slough, Motherwell and Bristol, the company is currently planning to open a third manufacturing site in 2014. As a result of its success, the business reinvested part of its profits in a £500,000 Bystronic ByAutonom 6 kW flat-bed laser, at its Stafford plant. Andy Evans, sales director at SSC Laser, says: "We are very excited about the acquisition of this machine, as it will increase our capacity by over 100 hours per month. This is due to the increased cutting speeds the machine operates across all materials. We already operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week; however, the company is so busy, we need to invest in machinery that will produce laser cut components quicker. "In particular, the ByAutonom 6 kW comes in to its own on thicker materials. This means, in addition to our existing range of laser cutting capabilities, SSC Laser will now be in a position to cut up to 25 mm in mild steel, 20 mm in stainless steel and 15 mm in aluminium." David Larcombe, managing director of Bystronic UK, adds: "We have always had an excellent working relationship with SSC Laser. Even as a supplier, they make everyone feel special. We are delighted they have decided to go for the 6 kW ByAutonom as their next laser investment. I know they will be delighted, not only with the machine's performance, but also its autonomous operation."
