Southern Technical Centre supports sub-contract services

Hexagon Metrology's new southern Technical Centre, Swindon will see the company grow its sub-contract measurement service in the local area.

Sub-contract measurement is a service with significant growth potential, indeed, the UK is leading Hexagon in Europe in this area, says general manager David Brown (located at the Telford HQ). And with sub-contract measurement typically attracting work from within a 50 mile radius, according to experience at Telford, the new Swindon-based service will clearly help. “Sub-contract measurement is a very reactive business. Customers call and require a fast response for the measurement of, say, a part that falls outside its capacity to measure.” The company also has a sub-contract measurement service based at the Northern Technologies Centre, Burnley and is considering another one for the South East. Another growth service activity is CMM programming. “Although there are 900 seats of PC-DMIS in the UK, there is a still a demand from those companies for additional programming resource,” the general manager offers. The southern Technical Centre is housed in a newly completed factory unit and currently has three staff and a complement of CMM measurement technology. Mr Brown says that this is expected to grow 8 to 15 individuals over time. The new facility will also deliver training under the new NPL UKAS-accredited system.
