Six-figure investment at Sarginsons

Coventry-based manufacturer Sarginsons Industries has invested another six-figure sum in state-of-the-art technology to continue its growth. The specialist in lightweight castings has ploughed £125,000 into the purchases of several tools that will enhance its control and measurement processes.

The company has purchased a Faro Quantum 3D scanner that will improve its metrology capabilities when inspecting tools and components. In addition, four engineers are now being trained to use PolyWorks Software, which supports the scanner. The firm was assisted in the purchase of the scanning equipment by an ERDF grant through Coventry City Council.

Sarginsons has also bought a GNR Lab 300 spectro analyser that will be used to measure the chemical composition of the aluminium in its products and, on top of that, the company has invested in barcode technology in order to fulfil a major order with Jaguar Land Rover where additional product traceability was required.

There has also been an improvement in the company’s tooling maintenance programme through new shot-blast technology, which has both financial and environmental benefits.

Anthony Evans, managing director of Sarginsons, says the company continues to drive forward with its growth: “We understand that to work for clients such as Jaguar Land Rover and other major manufacturers, we must continue investing in everything we do, and that’s why we have spent another six figures on new technology. The Faro scanner allows us to check our processes in greater detail and, because of its portability, we can do that at our HQ or carry out checks at the client. We are very grateful for the support from Coventry City Council in the purchase of the technology.

“The new spectro analyser means we can go into very great detail on the chemical composition of our products and, again, it means we enhance further the lightweighting options for the components we produce here,” he adds. “It’s vital that we continue to invest as we look to grow even further.”

Investment at the company comes on the back of Sarginsons achieving IATF16949:2016 accreditation, as well as a successful recruitment drive that saw it attract six new staff from the local area.
