Sandvik Coromant sponsors MTC teams taking part in the Italian Job rally

Sandvik Coromant is sponsoring three Mini's that are being driven by the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) to raise money for charity.

Graduates and trainees at the MTC will be the using the latest Sandvik Coromant metal-cutting tools on MTC machines to renovate and restore the cars - one of which dates back to 1966 - for the event. The Italian Job rally is in its 25th year and hundreds of cars will drive from Turin to Trento, taking in the mountain roads of Piedmont and Trentino as well as a few laps around the Monza circuit. The three Minis – called Mike, Tango and Charlie to stand for MTC - will leave the organisation's home in Coventry on 21 October and then drive across France into Italy, reaching Turin for the start of the rally on 23 October. Painted red, white and blue, respectively, Mike was built in 1981, Tango in 1966, and Charlie in 1992. Sandvik Coromant has been a Tier One industrial member of the MTC since 2011 and works closely with the organistaion in line with its commitment to developing new machining solutions and sharing knowledge that will help manufacturers address future engineering challenges. Commenting on its sponsorship of the MTC rally entry, Howard Meachin, the senior manager of engineering at Sandvik Coromant, says: "Sponsoring the MTC rally entries and offering our technology and services to help with the restoration of the vehicles is an opportunity to highlight this commitment and our strong relationship with the MTC while helping the centre to raise money for a great cause."
