Hexagon Metrology supports MTC apprentices' Italian Job effort

Hexagon Metrology is supporting the efforts of 22 apprentices at Coventry's Manufacturing Technology Centre in their Italian Job Car Rally endeavour.

The apprentices are working in their own free time to restore a trio of classic Minis for the trip, which aims to raise money for a range of children's charities. They are using a variety of Hexagon Metrology equipment in the renovation process, including a Leica AT901 laser tracker for checking wheel alignment and a WLS400 system for inspecting body panels. The cars, which were manufactured in 1966, 1981 and 1992 and sourced in the Midlands, have been given nicknames of Mike, Tango and Charlie - MTC. They will be painted in red, blue and white, respectively, and will carry the Hexagon Metrology logo on their roofs. Telford-based Hexagon Metrology, a Tier One member of the MTC, is also helping to boost the team's fundraising drive by selling raffle tickets among staff, customers and suppliers. Speaking for Hexagon Metrology, Brett Green, sales and marketing director, said: "We're delighted to be a sponsor of this remarkable project and to support the efforts of this hard-working group of young engineers who are devoting hours of their free time to a worthwhile cause." The team will set off on the rally this month and take part in a variety of challenges during the 10-day adventure in Italy, including a drive on the Monza circuit and the Lingotto roof top test track. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event, which has raised more than £2 million for charity to date.
