By the end of December the use of HCFC141b as a cleaning solvent will be banned in all applications.
Fraser Cleaning Technologies managing director Graham Fraser says: “Companies have been putting this decision off for a while, with the result that the deadline is now on top of them and they haven’t yet made a commitment to change. The problem is that many existing users of HCFCs see the costs of changing to new generation chemistries as prohibitive, and many don’t have the time or necessary expertise to make the right decision for their specific requirements.”
But for those yet to take action, Fraser Cleaning Technologies is suggesting an alternative, which has proved effective and reliable in in-house trials.
A new product - DuPont – Vertrel SDG – is being offered as a direct replacement for 141b. “We are having significant success with this. It is proving to be a very effective cleaning solvent but also easy to implement and cost-effective in use, with solvent usage approx one fifth that of 141b and a cleaning performance comparable to that of Methylene chloride, Trike and significantly HCFC141b.”
DuPont has been developing Vertrel SDG for four years and has only recently released it to market following continuous technical and environmental improvements to ensure the best possible technical results as well as legislative compliance, alongside a wide array of application trials and compatibility testing.
