Spanish EDM specialist ONA has delivered what is believerd to be the largest EDM die sink machine in the world.

The customer for the 3,000 by 1,500 by 1,000 mm travel (X, Y, Z) machine capable of handling workpiece up to 15,000 kg is Hummel-Formen GmbH, one of the largest mould and tooling manufacturers in Germany. The company purchased the ONA TX10 machine for automated and high-precision production of large moulds. The ONA TX10 machine has two heads commanded by independent CNCs. This allows eroding of two cavities simultaneously and independently. The machine features three electrode changers with a total capacity for 49 electrodes. In fact, the machine is two machines in one since the worktank can be divided with each head able to work independently. When the worktank is used as a single unit, it has dimensions 4,200 by 2,400 by 1,250 mm. The ONA TX10 machine will be connected to Hummel-Formen's plant management and control system. In addition, Hummel-Formen has also acquired the ONA Plant Manager communications program that allows the remote control and supervision (from a PC, PDA or mobile phone), in real time, of the work process that the machine is carrying out.
