Mussett Aerospace is to create a dedicated aerospace facility at its Loddon, Norfolk factory, starting early next year.

The 12,000 sq ft aerospace production area, which will be within the factory's existing footprint, will create more space for the company's staff and machining centres. Some existing machinery and equipment will be transferred into the new area from other workshops within the factory and the firm will also be investing in new 5-axis milling machines and live tooling turning centres. Mussett Aerospace is part of the 110-employee Mussett Technology Group, which includes Mussett Engineering and Mussett Composites. "'We have an excellent reputation as a supplier for machined components for the aerospace industry and we are hoping to further strengthen our position with the creation of a dedicated aerospace facility," explains managing director Gordon Mussett. "We will be moving some of our machining centres into this new area in order to continue work on our existing aerospace orders and we'll also be investing in new equipment." The firm's current aerospace work includes machining bearings for aircraft undercarriages and flight controls. As well as improving work flows and making best use of the factory's floorspace, the new aerospace centre will help Mussett Aerospace achieve the latest industry accreditations. The company will be working towards AS9100 Issue C accreditation in early summer 2012, once the new aerospace facility is complete. Mr Mussett adds: "We have been very busy throughout 2011 and we want to carry that momentum into 2012. "We are currently an accredited supplier for aerospace, defence and automotive industries and our redesigned layout will help us achieve the new Issue C accreditation next year."
