Mori Seiki's NMH10000 DCG high-precision 5-axis control horizontal machining centre has been awarded the "38th Machine Design Award (Nippon Brand Prize)".

Sponsored and awarded by industrial newspaper Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, it is supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and with the co-operation of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and all industrial associations, in order to promote and develop industrial product design. The award is given to selected new products with original designs which offer a good balance of factors including appearance, functions, performance, safety and colour. This was the second consecutive year that a Mori Seiki machine received the Machine Design Award, following the one received for the NMV5000 DCG high-precision 5-axis control vertical machining centre in 2007. Mori Seiki commented: “We believe that the reason that this machine won the award, apart from the high level of performance, was that the judges appreciated our attitude of customer-focused development, with a space-saving design that allows the A-axis and B-axis mechanisms to be moved in the Z-axis direction [see picture] so that the machine width can be kept to a minimum while providing long axis travels, and with consideration given to operating convenience by enabling the ceiling to be opened up for set-up work while still providing a full-cover construction to ensure safety.”
