Mori Seiki's NT Series of mill-turn centres has received one of the 2005 Nikkei Superior Products and Service Awards/Nihon Keizai Shimbun Awards for Excellence, in Japan.

A total of 45 products are selected from fields as diverse as software and financial products, of which 21 receive the Award for Excellence after undergoing scrutiny by the judging committee. Nominations are made on the basis of inclusion in the Nikkei new products database or those listed in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Nikkei Sangyo Shimbun, Nikkei MJ and Nihon Keizai Kinyu Shimbun. This is not the first time Mori Seiki has been honoured with this award - the NV5000 vertical machining centre, the forerunner of the N Series, received one of the 2002 Nikkei Superior Products and Services Awards/Nikkei Business Daily Awards for Excellence. Earlier this year the company announced it was to double NT unit production from 50 to 100 by March 2008. This follows completion of its Chiba No 2 plant. With NT machining now undertaken in the new plant, assembly will take place in the existing Chiba No 1 Plant.
