The Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry has signed a new agreement with Warwickshire College, as part of its growing apprentice training programme.

The agreement means the Manufacturing Technology Centre will take on a further 10 engineering apprentices in September, adding to the 13 apprentices already going through the joint programme, now in its second year, with Warwickshire College. The trainees will develop skills across a wide range of manufacturing processes and tool room techniques during their four-year apprenticeship. The MTC's operations director, Leigh Carnes, said: "We are delighted to be continuing our fruitful relationship with Warwickshire College. Our apprentices are involved in projects across the MTC's research activities, learning valuable skills that will help their progression into a long term career in engineering. Working with Warwickshire College, they will gain necessary qualifications, while being exposed to a unique research environment and cutting edge projects at the MTC." The Manufacturing Technology Centre opened in 2011, following a £40 million cash injection from the West and East Midlands development agencies. It is a partnership between some of the UK's major global manufacturers and three universities: Birmingham, Nottingham and Loughborough as well as TWI Ltd, the operating division of The Welding Institute. The MTC aims to provide the bridge between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the government's manufacturing strategy.
