Mapal has installed a state-of-the-art Vollmer CNC wire-eroding machine and introduced a daily second shift, boosting the Rugby, Warks' facility's capacity, particularly for custom tools, by around 25%.
The company has also recruited additional personnel with skills not only in wire erosion, but also in inspection, turning, milling, cutting and drilling
Mapal is seeing record levels of demand for its products, with strong growth continuing.
"Our business depends not only on the quality of our products," explains Wayne Whitehouse, general manager, Mapal UK, "but also on the quality of our customer service and we have, over the years, built up an enviable reputation in both of these areas.
"This latest investment in our UK manufacturing operations will help us to continue to provide our customers with the market-leading products backed by fast, responsive service and, of course, complemented by Mapal's unrivalled expertise in developing high-performance precision cutting tools that deliver the outstanding performance and reliability combined with the lowest cost per part."
With five simultaneously path-controlled CNC axes and a CADCAM system that is optimised for tool manufacture, the new machine is particularly suitable for the efficient production of tools with complex geometries.
It also incorporates a 12-station automatic loader to minimise the need for operator intervention, and a novel high power erosion generator that support high throughput while delivering fine finish-ground surfaces with roughness values (Ra) of 0.2 µm or better.
