As a leading toolmaking and subcontract engineering company, West Midlands based Lodent has recently installed two large machine tools. One is a Wilkins Verson 600 ton mechanical press with a bed area of 3,650 by 2,250 mm and the other a vertical machining centre with a machining capacity of 2,000 by 1,000 by 1,000 mm.
Lodent Precision, is continuing an ongoing investment program which started in November 2008 with its first large machining centre, that has a capacity of 4,000 by 2,000 mm. The machine attracted larger work for the company and consequently Lodent has been manufacturing larger progression and transfer tools. These tools need to be proven before shipment to a customer and, with the installation of the press, Lodent can now accommodate the majority of tooling requirements from UK and European customers.
Lodent director Paul Riley explains: "To satisfy customer's demands for a speedy turnaround of new and modified tooling we needed to offer the complete service. The company is still growing even in these uncertain times. We still strive to be the best in all areas, knowledge, technology, capacity and service.
"Lodent is still investing, at a time when most of the UK tool making industry is shrinking. Our investment stands us in good stead for the future and allows us to remain competitive globally while offering the complete service to our customers."
