MACH 2014 - Sandvik Coromant offers a journey of discovery to greater productivity

Sandvik Coromant will showcase a number of new and recently introduced product innovations, with specific focus on the company's new turning grades and Inveio technology at its Smart Hub on Stand 5660, Hall 5 at MACH 2014 (7-11 April, Birmingham NEC).

The company will also major on a number of component solutions at the exhibition, particularly for the aerospace and oil and gas industries - Sandvik Coromant develops tooling solutions in cooperation with end users to meet current and future industry demands. Due to the quantity of recent tooling products and component solutions that Sandvik Coromant has brought to market, the company's Smart Hub will carry the theme 'What will you discover?' This is intended to encourage visitors to find out more about the benefits behind the tools and solutions on display. Most prominent among the products in the spotlight will be GC4325, a new generation coated cemented carbide grade for steel turning. Thanks to the grade's ability to retain an intact edge line and boost process security, many customers are already realising an average productivity increase of 30% is achievable in comparison with existing insert technology. And following the introduction of GC4325 in October 2013, new grades GC4315 and GC3330 have been added. While GC4325 is the first choice for steel turning, when this grade reaches a limit in metal removal rate due to high speed and length of time in cut, GC4315 withstands the higher cutting temperatures that occur, while GC3330 is the first choice grade for milling cast iron materials, says Sandvik Coromant. The common denominator between all three grades is Inveio uni-directional crystal orientation, a groundbreaking technology that brings endurance, predictability and long tool life to the machining process. Normally, the crystal orientation in CVD alumina coating is random, but Sandvik Coromant has found a way to control the crystals, making them line up in the same direction – towards the top surface. The result is grades with incredible wear resistance and cutting edges that remain intact for longer. Other highlights from Sandvik Coromant will include CoroCut QD, an established system for deep grooving and parting-off with long overhangs, which is now expanded through inserts and durable tools featuring over- and under-coolant supply. In addition to the products, Sandvik Coromant's Yellow Coat team will be on hand to discuss any specific requirements. Of particular emphasis will be the company's Machine Investment support service. Machine Investment is a proven step-by-step approach, designed to save time, trouble and money. It defines, both in technical and commercial terms, the end user's needs and the new opportunities that investment can bring. A Sandvik Coromant team is created to work with the customer, machine manufacturer and agent to ensure that these requirements are realistic and achieved. In fact, all key specialist players are involved at the earliest possible stage. Many customers have been able to reduce the cost of producing a component, with manufacturers able to make profits from day one, increase productivity by 15% or more, and reduce payback time by 12-15 months. Sandvik Coromant is also the principal sponsor of the MACH 2014 Education and Training Zone, reinforcing its commitment to young engineers. The Education and Training Zone is dedicated to student visitors interested in engineering-based manufacturing and associated technologies. It is used as a focal point to engage with the education sector, as well as provide an interesting visitor attraction in its own right. Sandvik Coromant says it hopes that the Education and Training Zone will inspire, prepare and motivate the next generation of British engineers.
