MACH 2014 - DMC 80 FD boasts half a second tool change time

The big news from DMG Mori for MACH 2014 is its fourth generation DMC 80 FD duoBlock.

Liquid cooling of the machine bed, column and feed drives has led to 30% improvements in accuracy, while larger linear guides and ballscrew drives have resulted in 30% better rigidity and cutting performance, says the company. Impressively, the machine has a 0.5 second tool change time plus new wheel magazines that can hold up to 363 tools. Furthermore, when the DMC 80 FD duoBlock is used with a powerMaster 1000 spindle and HSK 100, DMG Mori says it's capable of giving a whopping 77 kW of power. Power is nothing without control so the firm will be showing how its Celos interface can show live information about the current part being manufactured – and how well it is doing. Celos is also compatible with ERP systems and can be linked to CADCAM systems.
Elsewhere on the stand, DMG Mori will show advancements in cutting glass, ceramics, carbon fibre and honeycomb stacks. The firm has discovered that it can do it by adding vertical, ultrasonic oscillations to the spindle of its Ultrasonic 20 linear machine. Using oscillations of between 20 and 50 kHz it is possible to achieve feed rates of up to 18 m/min and minimise burring and edge damage to laminated materials. The firm is demonstrating its other machines by cleverly sponsoring others parts of the exhibition. It is supporting the milling and turning competition for WorldSkills by supplying CTX310 ecoline and DMU 635 V ecoline machines. It is also sponsoring the MANTRA truck which houses its DuraTurn 2050MC. Visitors will also be able to see its MillTap 700 and DMU 50 ecoline machines on the YMT Technologies stand as part of the recent distribution agreement between the two companies.
