Following the success of its KMF Young Engineer of the Year, (YEOTY), initiative, the Newcastle under Lyme precision sheet metal worker is to run the programme again, with a new challenge for the entrants this year.

The aim behind YEOTY is to inspire young people and promote engineering and apprenticeships as a viable career path. Launched last September and rolled out throughout 20 local schools, the first project was hugely successful, with over 1,700 students taking part. According to KMF, feedback received from teachers, students, MPs "was fantastic", so good, in fact, that KMF is now committed to running the project on an annual basis. This year, the company will be working with the Greenpower formula 24 cars initiative, again with 20+ schools involved. KMF aims to find each school a sponsor, from a pool of local businesses that will financially support the project and offer resource to help the school meet the milestones of the project. The project is supported by North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce, HSBC, NAS, EAL and SEMTA. The initiative concludes with a race day in June next year. Schools, parents, sponsors, VIPs and media will attend. Anyone interested in supporting the initiative should contact Suzy Ball, Training & School Development Co-ordinator at KMF.
