Hexagon Metrology and inos have announced they are cooperating to develop 3D metrology systems for the automotive industry.

The companies have just co-exhibited their joint solutions at the Automatica show in Munich, Germany and they hope their offerings will be used to automatically check the dimensions of cars as they are assembled. Hexagon already has a product for scanning a full 360 degrees around a car body, called 360° SIMS (pictured), but it is turning to inos for the firm's knowledge in fixed and robotic sensors. The idea of the collaboration is so that both firms can accelerate the abilities of their products. Holger Hofmann CEO of inos says: "We believe this cooperation will enhance the fusion of offline metrology and optical inline metrology." Aravind Govindan, a senior research analyst at business and consulting firm, Frost & Sullivan, says: "Together, both companies can provide customers with a 100% automated metrology solutions that bring fast and efficient dimensional process control to the automotive industry". Giacomo Barilà, head of the automated solutions and sheet metal product lines, adds: "We are committed to serving the world's top automotive OEMs and Tier1 suppliers with fast, efficient and fully automated 3D Metrology and process control solutions."
