Hardinge has appointed John McTernan as European sales, marketing and service director.

The new position, created following a review and re-structure of Hardinge’s global operations, signifies Hardinge’s intent to manage and co-ordinate its business activities more effectively and efficiently across Europe and in specific regions of the world overseen by the company’s International Sales Unit in Switzerland (Russia, India and Brazil). In addition to helping the company achieve synergies and economies of scale across its European sales, marketing and service operations – the appointment is also part of a wider global strategy designed to grow Hardinge’s business by positioning the company as a manufacturing systems solutions provider. “All of our efforts and resources are being focused on making Hardinge a customer-focused and market-led organisation,” said Mr McTernan. “The emphasis now, and in the future, will be to concentrate and develop our core competencies in order to differentiate ourselves from the competition and to grow our business. “New product development (milling, turning, grinding and workholding) will reflect this customer-centric focus and, while we still continue to provide a broad portfolio of standard through to high-end products in all of our technology ranges, there will be a definite emphasis towards advanced technology - multi-axis machine tools (5-axis machines; mill-turn machines), Super Precision and Hard Turning lathes and turning centres, machine tools with integrated automation etc. “In addition to new products and new product development, we are also strengthening and increasing our applications and technical services to help consolidate and grow our total solutions business and will further develop our after-sales service provision too. “The new Hardinge will be differentiated by its ability to consistently deliver technically excellent, quality-driven, high-integrity world-class solutions and first-class services.”
