John McTernan has become director of the Bridgeport brand for Hardinge-Bridgeport, headquartered in Leicester.

The position sees him assume global responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and control of all Bridgeport operations. Hardinge acquired the Bridgeport brand some 18 months ago. Although notionally based in the company's new Leicester facility – Mr McTernan spends significant time in the Far East (Taiwan, China etc) overseeing new product developments at Bridgeport's manufacturing sites. He also travels extensively throughout Europe, the UK, and South America etc. planning and designing product launches; marketing the Bridgeport brand, both internally and externally – and driving the Bridgeport milling brand – forwards. “The potential for the Bridgeport milling brand is enormous -and it's all based on customer focus and customer choice,” Mr McTernan said. Prior to becoming director of the Bridgeport brand, and before the Hardinge acquisition, Mr McTernan held previous technical and sales and marketing positions at Bridgeport. Before joining Bridgeport in 1998 he worked in a technical (motion and process control) capacity at global giant Siemens. He has over 30 years’ experience in the machine tool/manufacturing sector and is a fluent German speaker.
