First Amada Ensis fibre laser in UK installed at Generic Punching Systems

Amada has received the first two orders for a new range of fibre laser cutting machines incorporating a patented variable beam control unit that allows users to move between fibre and CO2 style beams for cutting both thin and thick materials.

This is in marked contrast to conventional fibre laser cutting systems that require higher power to cut thick mild steel.

A significant advantage of Ensis is that profiling of both thin and thick materials is achieved using just 2 kW of laser output from the integrated, Amada-built Ensis 2000 oscillator. In trial cuts at last year's EuroBLECH exhibition in Germany, power monitoring equipment showed that a 20 mm thick mild steel part produced on a 4kW CO2 laser cutter drew 63 kWh of electricity, whereas the 2kW Ensis required just 15 kWh.

Generic Punching Systems of Netherton, West Midlands has installed the first Ensis machine in the UK, an Ensis 3015, sheet capacity 3,070 by 1,550 by 100 mm in X, Y and Z. The company is a rapidly expanding family business specializes in laser cutting, CNC Turret Punching, CNC bending.

Halifax-based fabrication specialist YSS is the first in the UK to order a new Amada Ensis 4020 AJ fibre laser cutting machine, with a 4 m by 2 m bed, which is expected to be delivered in July.

YSS was established seven years ago by current Managing Director, Darren Brown, and has grown through acquisitions and continual investment in new technologies. The company is currently in the process of extending its current manufacturing facility in Halifax (YSS also operates a powder coating and finishing plant in Dewsbury).

The new Amada Ensis 4020 AJ complements two existing Amada flat bed 4kW lasers including an LC3015 F1 4kW with ASLUL tower. Together, the machines allow the company to offer an efficient and precise engineering service, at speed. Improved productivity means YSS can usually offer better lead times than its competitors – 24-hour capacity for the production of everything from one-offs and prototypes, through to large batch quantities, is available. With regard to laser cutting capacity, up to 25 mm mild steel, 15 mm stainless steel and 12 mm aluminium can be provided.
