Fadal brand vertical machining centres to make reappearance in UK, through Matchmaker CNC

Matchmaker CNC is to reintroduce the Fadal machining centre brand to the UK later this year, Machinery learned at the MACH 2016 exhibition this week.

The Leatherhead, Surrey-based company previously acted for the US vertical machining centre specialist and has continued to offer service support for Fadal machines, which number several hundred in the UK.

The original Fadal company was sold to Giddings & Lewis by its founders in 1995. Since then, the Fadal name has changed hands numerous times, as a result of a series of mergers and acquisitions. Over 30,000 Fadal vertical machining centres have been installed worldwide.

In 2013, Fadal returned to the machine tool market as Fadal Engineering, with the Michigan-based company now having launched a new product line that it is preparing for sale in Europe.

Details handed to Machinery at Birmingham’s MACH 2016 event indicate that there will be five 3-axis vertical machining centres offered from Fadal Engineering’s Classic Series, ranging from the VMC-2516R to the VMC-8030B, with the numbers nominally representing the X- and Y-axis travels in inches respectively (although the 2516R is shown as 26 by 30 inches).

Featuring linear-, roller- or box-way construction, depending on size, enhancements include a new spindle design that incorporates BIG-Plus technology, while the new, faster Fadal control CNC 64MP control employs the 'same language' and is compatible with the original CNC 88, 88HS and 32MP controls.

Matchmaker CNC is introducing these new machines with the tag line “Works and looks just like your old Fadal, only faster”.
