Engineering Technology Group has added a new agency to its list: Italian large vertical lathe and gantry milling machine manufacturer Pietro Carnaghi. It will now offer UK sales and service support.

Founded in 1922, Pietro Carnaghi supplies not just machine tools but the advanced machining technologies and automation necessary to optimise the machines in customer’s manufacturing plants. These include FMS cells and workpiece loading/unloading systems.

Today third and fourth generation Carnaghi family members remain active in the management of the company which, since 2009, has been based at a 55,000m² production plant located in Villa Cortese, Milan.

“This is a ground breaking agreement for ETG as it moves us into new territory, in terms of the physical size of the machines Carnaghi can supply along with creating wider market opportunities,” explains ETG Group managing director Martin Doyle.

“Notwithstanding, we are well resourced to meet the challenge, and many members of our sales, service and maintenance teams have experience of Carnaghi-type machines.”

ETG represents milling brands Chiron, Handtmann, Bridgeport Hardinge and Quaser, as well as multi-axis and mill-turn machines from Stama. Its turning range covers Nakamura and Bridgeport Hardinge.

Carnaghi is geared for overseas markets; 90% of its production is exported from Italy to world markets each year. It has a production capacity of about 40 machines per year, with thousands of successful installations all over the world.

Principal customers are aeronautics (jet engines), aerospace, mining and construction and power generation including gas, steam and hydro-electrical turbines as well as nuclear and wind energy.
