Chester location wins praise for Hexagon

After just eight months, Hexagon Metrology UK's new precision centre at Chester has won praise, not only for the convenience of its drop-in facility for minor repairs, but also its rapid recalibration service for Leica laser trackers.

Measurement services supplier Trescal says it is impressed by the capabilities on offer and welcomes the advantages of being within easy reach of the centre. "Having the new centre nearby has been essential in keeping our Leica laser trackers running, and it means any problems are resolved within hours," comments John Buckley, Trescal's Broughton site manager. "The turnaround on our calibration has been excellent, which is vitally important, as our trackers are used on a three-shift pattern, and downtime is costly," he adds. The centre was opened in January, so Hexagon could offer a faster service to businesses in North West England and North Wales, in particular, aerospace firms. Previously, the company's nearest facility was at Milton Keynes. The new site is proving to be a boon for local customers with less downtime and lower transport costs among the benefits, says Steve Shickell, Hexagon's portable metrology sales manager. Calibration turnaround times had been reduced by more than half and efficiency improved, thanks to the facility's purpose-built layout, he adds. As well as providing repair and recalibration services, the centre offers subcontract measurement for parts up to 10 m long in a temperature-controlled environment, product demonstrations and training courses. Established in the UK for over 25 years, Hexagon offers an extensive product portfolio of stationary and portable metrology equipment together with a wide variety of customer services ranging from system and software maintenance to training and subcontract measurement.
