£177 million of new business came out of MACH 2014, says exhibition organiser, the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA).

The figure has been released after analysis of exhibitors' feedback on sales. Visitor numbers were 23,000, 10% up on the previous edition of the show, held in 2012, and there was a record number of 612 exhibitors too. Many of those exhibitors reported immediately after the show in April that the quality of enquiries and value of orders placed had been very encouraging, but this latest figure confirms the event was a success. The show even had a visit from business secretary, Dr Vince Cable MP, who talked with business leaders to discuss investment, skills, Europe and the problems experienced by SMEs trying to fund growth projects. Dr Cable's visit concluded with a speech emphasising the importance to the UK economy of the engineering- based manufacturing sector. The MTA's recently appointed CEO, James Selka, says the MTA is already working on MACH 2016 (11-15 April, Birmingham NEC) and will unveil plans in "the near future".
