Tornos Open House to reveal new Swiss DT26 and more

Tornos Technologies will host its 2016 Open House event from 11 to 13 October at its Coalville, Leicestershire, headquarters.

The event will see the established SwissNano, GT26 and ST26 turning centres appearing alongside the new Swiss DT26, which will be making its UK debut at the event.

The Swiss DT26 has a design that promotes swarf evacuation and rigidity, while the model is also described as being “an extraordinarily flexible machine”.

Having a bar capacity of 25.4 mm, it has a modular work area for both front and back machining, and in its standard configuration is equipped with six turning tools, four driven radial tools, an angle toolpost that enables the installation of four tools each for front and back machining, as well as four independent positions for use with the counter-spindle. Matched spindle powers on the main and counter spindles also feature.

To adapt the machine to production needs, the guide bush can be removed to give a maximum workpiece length of 45 mm, with this conversion taking just 15 minutes in either direction. Reduced bar wastage is the benefit for non-guide bush working.

Alongside the DT26 will be the Swiss ST26. Initially developed as a simple machine covering a wide range of requirements, it is equipped with seven linear axes and two C axes, and has a capacity of 25.4mm diameter and 220mm length. It is positioned as a direct competitor to machines equipped with five or six axes, but in the same price range.

The new Swiss GT26 launched at EMO last autumn will be present, this model now including a B-axis to increase the machine’s flexibility credentials. With six linear axes, two C-axes, three live tooling platens with the facility for 14 driven tools, offering a total of up to 40 tools, the GT26 provides flexibility and capability.

The 4 mm bar capacity SwissNano is a truly 'micro' machine tool that incorporates an X1/Y1 tooling platten with seven turning tools of maximum shank dimensions of 8 by 8 mm. It also has the standard capacity for three end-mounted tools with a diameter up to 16 mm, as well as another two end-mounted tools for counter-operations. The Swiss Nano is available with optional extras, such as a gear hobbing device, cross drilling/milling, polygon turning and high frequency spindles for both main and counter operations.

Tornos’ TISIS 2.0 programming and machine management software that will be demonstrated at the Open House event, too. Designed for all Tornos products working in ISO mode, TISIS has been continuously expanded to provide the users with a steadily increasing number of features such as Industry 4.0 and parametric programming that will simplify programming and prevent errors.

Supporting the event will be latest cutting tool innovations from Floyd Automatic Tooling, Rainford Precision, Arno Werzeuge and Iscar, while complementary technology will be demonstrated by PSL Datatrack, Wogaard and many more.
