Mollart breaks into lower cost deep hole machine market

A totally new range of lower cost (starting at £130,000) three- to five-axis deep hole drilling machines with a full 1 metre drilling specification marketed under the Mollart Matrix banner has been developed by Mollart Engineering of Chessington. The machines are specifically targeted towards companies that have a deep hole drilling requirement without the added sophistication of tool changing, probing and unmanned machining options that are normally incorporated into the Mollart range of prismatic machines.

The Mollart Matrix machines have high levels of versatility making them ideal for a number of applications such as the production of water feed cavities in die and mould bases, off-centre hole and pattern hole drilling under CNC control, while providing a high productivity solution for components such as tube plates. By incorporating a low cost, quick-change spindle adaptor kit, Matrix deep hole drilling machines can be converted to perform additional tasks such as milling, rigid tapping and thread milling which increases the overall versatility of the machines. This level of versatility can be further enhanced with the ability to incorporate a fourth axis rotary table and adding programmable tilting of the spindle head between +24 and –15 degrees to accommodate compound angle hole requirements. The Matrix DHD standard range comprises seven models with drilling capacities from 3 mm to 35 mm and able to meet depth requirements up to 1,500 mm, achieved at fully programmable penetration rates up to 3,000 mm/min. Two 6,000 revs/min spindle drives are available powered by 5.5 kW or 7.5 kW motors and table dimensions between 700 mm by 600 mm to 2,700 mm by 1,200 mm can be specified with a maximum table loading up to 15 tonne. Included in the standard specification is a chip conveyor, high pressure coolant and 20 micron filtration with CNC control via a Fanuc Oi Mate.
