ITC releases 5041 end mills for extended reach in challenging material applications

Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC) has launched its latest 5041 series of end mills to provide manufacturers with extended reach when machining challenging materials.

The 5041 series of 5-flute tools is now the company’s first choice offer for the high-performance machining of steel and exotic material types. These solid-carbide end mills are manufactured from a micro-grain carbide substrate with ITC’s Cupro coating technology that is designed to dissipate heat, prolong tool life and provide consistency, thus delivering a robust platform for machining deep pockets and cavities.

5041 series long-reach tools are available in diameters of 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 mm, with a reach of 12 to 64 mm, and a length of cut from 5 to 24 mm depending upon the chosen diameter.

The geometry and flute length ratio has been optimised on a tool series that has an overall length from 58 to 125 mm. As a result of extensive R&D trials at ITC’s headquarters to provide the best combination of rigidity, surface finish and material removal rate when reaching into cavities, the 5041 reduces chatter and vibration and, subsequently, stress and spindle load. Optimised tool geometry combines with the harmonic flute design to suit applications that include trochiodal milling, slotting, pocketing and heavy material removal applications of aerospace-grade materials.

The smaller 3, 4 and 5 mm diameter end mills are offered with the choice of 0.25 or 0.5 mm corner radius, while tools from 6 to 16 mm diameter enable customers to select a corner radius option of 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 or 4 mm.
