Walter improves boring performance with E47 geometry

Tooling giant Walter has improved the quality and performance of its Medium and Maxi boring tool systems with the introduction of an indexable insert using E47 boring geometry.

Walter's Boring Medium and Maxi systems support the entire boring geometry range from 20 to 640 mm. With E47 universal geometry, the insert conforms to the CC basic shape and has a sintered circumference. It has a 15° rake angle, moderately rounded cutting edge radius and 7° clearance angle. The straight cutting edge allows the insert to machine dimensionally precise shoulders, typically 90° or 75°, without profile distortions. A key feature of the insert is the adoption of a variable chipbreaker groove that generates perfect chip formation, even at relatively deep cuts. The insert is available from Walter GB of Bromsgrove in three cutting materials: as CVD-Tiger.tec WPP20 grade for cast iron and steel; and as PVD Tiger.tec WSM20 and WSM30 for more difficult materials such as stainless steel.
