Taylor Hobson develops Surtronic S-100 series portable roughness tester

Taylor Hobson has developed the Surtronic S-100 series of portable roughness testers to be robust enough for the shopfloor, while flexible enough for any inspection room.

The Taylor Hobson Surtronic S-100 features a 50 mm stylus lift with right-angle attachment and offers over 70 mm stylus reach so that the use of risers, blocks, stands or fixtures can be avoided. The versatile stylus can even measure upside down. When equipped with an S-100 series stand and printer, the unit can be used as a fully integrated roughness measurement solution. Standard USB and USB mini ports provide a range of connectivity options. Roughness measurements for multiple parts can either be stored internally or saved to a USB memory device. The USB port can also be used to attach a portable printer, allowing printed data to accompany a part to the next stage of manufacture or to end user. The mini port can be used to charge the device with any standard USB charger or for connection to a PC for data analysis and reporting. The Surtronic S-100 has an improved comfort grip and a rubberised, impact-resistant body that surrounds a recessed, Mylar-protected touchscreen, and a solid stainless steel drive mechanism with anti-wear gears and bearings. The device is powered by a 3,000 mAh heavy duty Li-Poly battery capable of up to 2,000 measurements from a single charge. Three versions of advanced Talyprofile surface finish analysis software are available for the Surtronic S-100 Series: a Lite version that has all of the functions typically used for shopfloor inspection; a Silver version that has enhanced features and a full report printing capability; and a Gold version that has complete laboratory analysis functions. All three versions include multi-language support, desktop publishing templates, and roughness and waviness curves.
