Schunk hydraulic expansion toolholders become more powerful

The Tendo-E Compact, from Schunk, is a hydraulic expansion toolholder that can safely transfer torques of up to 520 Nm at 20 mm clamping diameter, allowing cutting at extremely high material removal rates.

The vibration damped toolholder has a runout accuracy of better than 0.003 mm at 2.5 x D, with the precision mounting protecting the spindle and the cutting edge from damage. Mountings are available for the HSK-A63, SK40, and BT40 interfaces at a clamping diameter of 20 mm. BT50 and SK50 variants are being added to the range in the near future with 12, 20 and 32 mm diameters across the five spindle interfaces. In the meantime, the use of intermediate sleeves will cover the complete clamping range. The hydraulic expansion toolholder works well across the application range from rough milling to finish machining operations such as drilling and reaming. The price of the Tendo-E Compact is situated between mechanical toolholders and established hydraulic expansion toolholders which, it is said, makes it a worthwhile investment for the users of Weldon or heat shrink toolholders to trade their equipment in for the more precise Tendo-E Compact toolholder. Users who have previously used Weldon or heat shrink toolholders can expect tool cost savings of up to 40 per cent for roughing operations when a Tendo-E Compact is used. Tools can be changed quickly with an Allen key, making this powerful hydraulic expansion toolholder an excellent alternative for small and medium-sized companies.
