Dormer Pramet’s forming taps range expanded; produce stronger threads – plus new taps for hardened steels

Dormer Pramet has expanded the company’s existing range of forming taps for standard thread forms MF, UNC and UNF, and added taps with oil grooves and through-coolant.

The five newly released lines of forming taps are said to offer greater accuracy and produce a stronger thread than standard cutting taps. Manufactured from high speed cobalt, the taps provide lower surface roughness and a stable design, reducing the risk of breakage, says Dormer Pramet. Available with TiN or TiCN coatings, the thread profile of the taps generates low torque and reduces friction to help improve surface finish.

Dormer Pramet has also launched a programme of solid carbide taps for machining hardened steels up to 63 HRc and other challenging materials. Here, the company has developed five lines for threading depths of up to 3xD under its Dormer brand. They can be identified by their T2xx designation.
