Tooling specialist Walter AG, headquartered in Tübingen, Germany, is preparing people for an Industry 4.0 future via a new Bachelor of Science course at Baden- Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) in Villingen-Schwenningen.

Industry 4.0 means that mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology are growing closer together to form an intelligently networked production scenario, says Walter. The interlocking of the analogue and the digital world requires a lasting change of attitude, not just in companies, but also in universities.

As a solution provider with a view to the bigger picture, the company is supplementing its range of tools with digital components and apps, which make it possible to continuously monitor the machining process. Digital transformation is currently one of Walter's most important company objectives. This path calls for digital experts, which is why the company is also actively involved in training for the Industry 4.0 professions of the future. The cooperative Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems with a major in Process Engineering and Digital Management is the latest initiative.

Walter AG is now offering an opportunity in cooperation with Baden- Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) in Villingen-Schwenningen. The new cooperative Bachelor of Science in Business Information Studies will commence in autumn of 2018.

The Business Information Systems degree at DHBW Villingen-Schwenningen uniquely combines scientific study with practical experience in one of the internationally leading companies in the tool industry. Students will switch between the university and Walter AG every three months. In this way, they will gain knowledge, professional experience and so-called soft skills in equal measure. After a three-year study programme and a thesis, graduates will complete their education with the academic title Bachelor of Science.

In addition to the cooperative degree in Business Information Systems, Walter AG also offers cooperative degrees in Mechanical Engineering at university sites near Walter locations in Tübingen, Frankfurt and Zell am Harmersbach.
