Portable innovation from Measurement Solutions

A distinct shift in the past 12 to 18 months has seen industry target portable CMM solutions, instead of conventional floor-standing models. With manufacturers unwilling to take parts to the CMM, Measurement Solutions has introduced a number of portable models to its range this year. The very latest to be unveiled is the new MetraSCAN, which closes the gap that has until now existed between laser scanning and portable CMMs. Manufactured by Canada's Creaform, Measurement Solutions is the exclusive UK agent and has high hopes for this innovative device. While products form the foundation of any successful business, the team at Measurement Solutions takes the credit for developing and supporting a series of successful applications in recent times. Despite a global recession last year, the company had its best ever financial performance in 2009, thanks in some measure to a number of significant contract wins. One of these, at Jaguar Land Rover, saw the company tasked with retrofitting new Metrologic software to every CMM at the auto giant's Halewood plant, representing some 30 licences. The contract was secured against competition from several larger players in the metrology marketplace. Not withstanding the excellent business achievements in 2009, Measurement Solutions is currently on target to surpass these efforts in 2010. Again a number of big contracts are behind the results. One, at a leading aerospace company, is set to run over the course of next two years. The company's progress was augmented on 1 November 2010 by the start of operations at a brand new facility in Peterborough. The premises include a temperature controlled demonstration room adorned with the latest measuring technology, while a dedicated training area provides a relaxed environment for customers to learn best practice methods.
