Portable X-ray machine suits automotive use

MDXi is an advanced in-line and off-line x-ray inspection, fault detection and QC system that can easily be wheeled around an automotive plant, from place to place as required. It is based on a novel and x-ray detector array that costs just a fraction of conventional systems, yet can provide accurate 3D or 2D measurements, volumes and images. Designed for general purpose inspection, MDXi is perfect for applications ranging from coolant hoses through to complex aluminum cylinder head castings and from 100 per cent in-line QC inspection to batch laboratory trials. The unit has modular design and a compact size of just 1.4 m by 1.0 m. Resolution can be as fine as 300 microns and the MDXi is sensitive enough to detect and measure plastic components inside a plastic or metal casing, yet powerful enough to see through 20cm of solid steel. It can even measure the tiny thickness of the expensive catalyst deposits inside a catalytic converter. 3DX-Ray offers a wide range of dedicated software modules including 2D and 3D imaging, image analysis, fault detection, “golden board” checking, 3D volume and linear measurement and QC. It can be run independently or linked to an external QC, SPC or fully integrated into the plant’s SCADA system.
